Society of Petroleum Engineers – Richardson, TX 75080: 6/2016 – 2021
Editorial Services Manager (full-time)
Project managed and supervised the production of eight online peer-reviewed journals and all scholarly, peer-reviewed books working closely with companies like Cenveo, KBL Publishing, Editorial Office, and Lightning Source to meet timelines and objectives. The position required extensive organizational skills, multi-tasking, sound judgment, interpersonal, collaborative and relationship-building skills in high-stress situations with great attention to detail. Worked proactively with eight executive editors, 36 associate editors, and 2,800+ technical editors and supervised nine full-time staff employees, 12 contract editors, and a pool of volunteers to produce publications that inspire, motivate, and demonstrate a competitive edge in the industry.
Worked directly with authors (sometimes as many as 26 authors per paper or book) and their staff from concept to publication under tight financial constraints and deadlines. Work closely with the Executive Editorial Committee and the Book Development Committee to establish publication guidelines and material for all publications and for book project selection based on market projections. Published 22 scholarly books during my tenure, more than any other editorial service manager in the history of the company while simultaneously cutting costs by 50 percent. Worked closely with marketing and web development to promote new releases. Fostered the Legacy Book program to locate and purchase high-value out-of-print books to add to an extensive petroleum engineering library. Organized and indexed a library of more than 10K books making rare information more accessible.
Achievements:
. Produced 22 scholarly books during my time at SPE. (During the two years prior to my employment, only one book was produced at SPE and fewer than 100 in print since it’s origination in the 60s.)
. Worked closely with staff to find ways to reduce the timeline for peer- reviewed papers from submission to publication. During my time with SPE the timeline was significantly reduced. Much of this success resulted from working closely with an efficient, well-organized, and knowledgeable staff, supporting their ideas and concepts, and helping and encouraging them to implement steps to make this change possible through staff empowerment.
